The remarkable island nation of Singapore has become one of the wealthiest countries in the world, which is quite phenomenal considering that this city-state is the smallest country in South East Asia.

Following its declaration of independence from the British in 1963, and a subsequent short-lived incorporation into the Federation of Malaysia, the country finally gained sovereignty in 1965 to become a Republic. Out of this newfound independence, the Republic overcame initial problems of unemployment and social tensions by implementing social change and developing an economic infrastructure which laid the way for the impressive economy which sustains the Republic today.

An economy which became sufficiently successful to be included with Taiwan, Hong Kong and South Korea as one of the Four Asian Tigers, so called for their rapid economic growth over a relatively short period of time.

Today, Singapore has a powerful economy which is based around trade, manufacturing and tourism. Ever since the British first developed it for the purposes of trade, it has been one of the world's most used ports. Its multi-cultural heritage has helped to make it an attractive country for multi-national corporations. After Tokyo, London and New york, it is the globe's fourth largest foreign exchange trading centre.

This impressive growth and development are all the more intriguing considering that the country constitutes 63 islands which are all disposed to a tropical rainforest climate. Due to the rapid urbanization of many areas, like the Downtown Core, the country is always busy reclaiming land. Already, some of the smaller islands have been joined to similar islands to create a more sizable land area for the purpose of development.

Although urbanization happened fairly quickly, the country has gone to great lengths to protect both its historical architecture and the wonderful nature which its position close to the equator permits.

Many of the Best Singapore Hotels are situated close to this abundant natural beauty. The Grand Hyatt, close to the Botanic Gardens, is a popular destination for visitors hoping to enjoy the singular local hospitality while being conveniently placed near many of the interesting sights and experiences the city has to offer. A luxurious Five Star Hotel, it offers guests a chance to enjoy some beautifully crafted modern design while providing the sort of comfort and luxury which have become synonymous with a trip to one of Asia's most exotic locations.

For both recreation and business, the Five Star Singapore Hotels have established themselves as some of the most inspired in all the world. Like the Grand Hyatt, many have engaged the country's drive to promote and celebrate the best of modern architecture, while others retain a sense of style and sophistication which has carried over from the early days of the British East India Company.

This old colonial luxury is to be found in a few rare places, such as the Raffles and the Fullerton Hotels. The Raffles Hotel takes its name from Sir Thomas Raffles, the man who is is credited as the founder of the modern country. With a history dating back to the 19th century, the hotel is a national monument and offers guests a true sense of erstwhile charm. Known for its exemplary style, beauty and wonderful cuisine, it has become one of the most revered hotels in the world.

Whichever luxury accommodations you find yourself staying in, the generous spirit of the vibrant country infuses every aspect of hospitality, from the magnificent architecture and sense of luxury, to the unequalled delights of the cuisine which shows a predilection for the abundant fresh sea-food, not to mention the wonderful dishes which derive from the colourful multi-cultural past and present.

A stay in one of the Five Star Singapore Hotels is one of life's special treats and certainly unforgettable.
